Letter: What's next for the coalition?

Every member of the so-called coalition of the willing should pull out of Iraq as soon as possible. This would not only be consistent with the desires of the populations of most of those countries but it would put overwhelming pressure on Bush to give the UN a real voice in governing Iraq and managing the turnover.

In suggesting this I would remind the members of the coalition that in joining the invasion they aided Bush in his effort to undermine the UN, an institution the US helped found. Pulling out now would give the coalition members an opportunity to re-express their support for international co-operation in a very concrete way.

I would also remind the coalition members of the lies and deceptions that the Bush administration employed in the buildup to the invasion. To continue to co-operate with the US is to share in the responsibility for those lies, and all the death and destruction that has flowed from them.

Iraq is Bush's personal war in the fullest sense of the word. As I see it the best thing the coalition can do now for the ultimate good of all people is to get out of the way so that the Albatross that Bush has hung around his own neck is clearly visible for all the world to see, especially Americans.
