The accord was formally agreed to in Kuala Lumpur in an exchange of documents by the Japanese ambassador to Malaysia and Rastam Mohd Isa, secretary general of Malaysia's Foreign Ministry, Japanese Foreign Ministry official Yoko Matsuoka said.
Both countries struck an initial deal in December. The pact eliminates about 97 percent of trade tariffs in agricultural, forestry and fishery products as well as industrial products, according to the AP.
