Romanian President Ion Iliescu on Wednesday arrives in Armenia on a two-day official visit, RIA Novosti was told in the press service of the Armenian President. The programme of the visit includes meetings with Armenian President Robert Kocharyan and negotiations in a broader format. Ion Iliescu will also have meetings in the National Assembly of Armenia and will visit Yerevan State University. Apart from that, the Romanian President will lay flowers to the Memorial to the victims of the genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915. During this visit the sides plan to sign several bilateral documents - agreements on cooperation, on customs services, and on fighting organised crime. A group of Romanian entrepreneurs who accompany Iliescu will hold a number of meetings with representatives of the Armenian business quarters. As RIA Novosti was told at the Yerevan diplomatic mission in Bucharest, the economic sphere must become a priority in cooperation between the two countries. The visit by the Romanian leader to Armenia was to take place at the beginning of October, but it was postponed in connection with the beginning of the anti-terrorist operation in Afghanistan.
