Russian President Vladimir Putin and Jordanian King Abdullah II spoke out in favour of further combating religious extremism, Sergei Prikhodko, the Deputy Head of the Kremlin administration said. According to him, the Russian President and the Jordanian King discussed the situation in the Middle East in detail. The King believes that Russia is playing a fundamental role here. They also discussed the situation surrounding Iraq, Prikhodko said. In addition, they focused on the situation in Afghanistan. Putin related to Abdullah II his opinion on the Afghan problems and the steps Russia and the Central Asian countries are taking to settle the conflict, Prikhodko said. According to Prikhodko, they discussed the implementation of agreements achieved during the King's visit to Russia in August 2001. The sides pointed out that the progress made in the trade and economic sphere had been particularly favourable in such a short period of time.
