President of the Transdniestrian republic of Moldova Igor Smirnov won at the presidential elections held on December 9. According to the preliminary data provided by the central electoral commission, 80 percent of electors voted in his favour. A total of 65 percent of Transdniestria's voters, the self-proclaimed republic on Moldovan territory, took part in the elections. Igor Smirnov has been elected president of the Transdniestrian Moldovan republic for a third time. The final results will be officially announced in five days.
