Ratification Of Agreement On Relations With Iran

The Federation Council (the upper house of parliament) has approved the federal law On the ratification of the agreement on the fundamentals of relations and the principles of cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The agreement on the fundamentals of relations and the principles of cooperation between Russia and Iran was signed in Moscow on March 12, 2001. The document determines the principles of friendly bilateral relations between Russia and Iran and the areas of the Russian-Iranian cooperation in political, trade and economic, scientific and cultural spheres and in combating international terrorism. Article 11 of the agreement implies the overall development of inter-parliamentary relations. This framework agreement does not concern Russia's and Iran's rights and obligations following other bilateral and multilateral treaties involving Russia and Iran together or separately.
