The funeral of President of Chechnya Akhmad Kadyrov, who died in a terrorist act in the Chechen capital, Grozny, was held on Monday.
The mourning ceremony took place at a cemetery in Tsentoroi, the native village of Akhmad Kadyrov. It was attended by a few thousand people, including chairman of the Government of Chechnya Sergei Abramov, who temporarily acts as the head of the republic, and the chief of a number of regions of the North Caucasus and southern Russia. Representatives of the clergy of Chechnya and the neighboring regions arrived in Tsentoroi.
Today mourning ceremonies are held also in Itum-Kala in the south of Chechnya, where Hussein Isayev, Chairman of the State Council of Chechnya, who had died in the terrorist act in Grozny, was buried.
In keeping with Islamic traditions, the mourning will last three days.
An explosive device was set off Sunday morning at the Dynamo Stadium in Grozny during the celebrations of the WWII Victory Day. Six persons, President of the Chechen Republic Akhmad Kadyrov among them, were killed in the explosion, and 63 people were wounded. At present over 20 of those injured remain in hospitals.
