New space project by Russia, Britain

Russia's Rosoboronexport company and Britain's Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd. signed on July 24 a contract to launch within the next two years eight microsatellites by three Omsk-made Cosmos booster rockets from the Russian space centre Plesetsk, reports the Omsk regional administration (Western Siberia).

This project under the name of DMS, involving seven countries of Europe, Asia and Africa, will form a satellite grouping to monitor catastrophes and natural calamities.

One of the world's best carrier rockets in its class, Cosmos which is produced by the Omsk Polyot amalgamation has been used in the recent years for the launch of British and Chinese microsatellites.

The English have given preference to the Omsk launch vehicle for its high tactical characteristics and specifications providing, at an accessible price, the required accuracy of putting space objects on helio-stationary orbit.
