Heavy snowfall and avalanches have finally stopped in the mountains of the Main Caucasian Range, and snow is being cleared away from roads and highways. At this moment, nothing prevents mountain skiers from enjoying the beauty of the Elbrus Mountain area, said an officer on duty at the emergencies ministry of Kabardino-Balkaria, one of Russia's North Caucasian republics. Calm weather has also set in in the mountains of the neighboring North Caucasian republic of Karachayevo-Circassia, which is famous for its tourist bases and mountain spas of Teberda, Arkhyz and Dombai. Reports from North Ossetia say snow has practically been cleared away from the Transcaucasian Main Road and the Military Georgian Road, both of which were blocked by avalanches. Nevertheless, every emergency service in the North Caucasus is still kept on high-alert in the event of more snowfall.
