Latvian National Bolshevik Seeks Asylum in Russia

Leader of the Latvian National Bolsheviks, Vladimir Linderman (known by the nickname Abel among political circles), asked President Vladimir Putin for political asylum in Russia.

Vladimir Linderman said in an interview to Russia’s NTV television that he was not going to be naturalized in Russia; otherwise, he would be denied access to Latvia. Meanwhile, Abel is planning to assert the truth while being in Russia.

The Latvian authorities blame Linderman for an attempt on the life of President Vaira Vike-Freiberga; Linderman himself states that he protects the interests of the Russian-speaking population of Latvia, whose rights are violated in the former Soviet republic every day.

According to some sources, the address of Vladimir Linderman to the Russian president is already supported by nine deputies of the State Duma. No reaction of the official authorities has been published yet. It is unlikely that the Latvian politician will win support in Moscow, especially if we take his recent statements into consideration: the Latvian national-Bolshevik leader said that the Latvian police had put him on the international wanted list due to Russia’s FSB.

The other day, the Latvian prosecutor’s office brought charges against three other members of the national-Bolshevik organization “Victory” in connection with the illegal storage of explosives and weapons; these people are also accused of urging the overthrow of the state authorities. According to the Latvian legislation, these people can be imprisoned for the period of up to ten years. Russia’s news agency RIA Novosti reports that the three members of the National-Bolshevik Party are Olga Morozova, 39, from Riga; Artur Petrov, 21, from Daugavpils; and Reimond Krumgolds, 20. The police detained them during search operations.

As was reported by the Latvian police, a 400 gram trotyl block was discovered during the search of Abel’s apartment on November 18. However, Abel himself wasn’t detained, as he was a witness for the defense at the trial of the National-Bolshevik leader, famous writer Eduard Limonov. The trial is being held in the Russian city of Saratov.

Then, the Latvian authorities issued a order for the arrest of Vladimir Linderman and put him on the international wanted list. Currently, the Latvian politician is in the hiding in Russia. Abel says that the proceedings instituted against the National-Bolshevik Party in Latvia are a provocation, and the so-called evidence obtained has been faked.
