Chechnya: Rebels Shelled Federal Forces 10 Times Over Past 24 Hours

Chechen militants fired ten times at the subdivisions of the joint group of forces, RIA Novosti learnt at the joint group of forces' HQ Wednesday. According to the HQ, in the Starye Atagi settlement of the Grozny district, unidentified criminals shelled, from automatic weapons and grenade launchers, the provisional station of the special police unit of St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region's main interior departments. The police opened return fire and managed to destroy two rebels, the HQ noted. Besides, a land mine exploded on a local road when a KAMAZ truck with policemen was passing by. The damaged vehicle was shelled by bandits from automatic weapons and underbarrel grenade launchers. As a result, one policeman was killed, several policemen got wounds and burns of various degrees and have been urgently taken to hospital.
