Charges brought against Beslan terrorist on 9 articles of Russian Penal Code

Russia receives humanitarian aid for Beslan victims from all over the world 

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Russia has brought criminal charges against a participant of the terrorist act in Beslan, North Ossetia. The charges have been brought on nine articles of the Russian Penal Code.

One of the terrorists, who seized the school in Beslan on September 1, Nurpasha Kulaev, a Chechen national, was detained during the storming operation. The man has been charged with banditry, terrorism, murder, kidnapping and other crimes, the Prosecutor General Vladimir Ustinov said. “Dead bodies of thirty terrorists were found on the site of the crime after the federal forces had stormed the school. One of the terrorists was arrested. There is no information yet to confirm the fact that some of the terrorists escaped,” Ustinov said.

One hundred and twenty-two former hostages, including 79 children, are still staying at Moscow hospitals, as of September 15, 2004, the director of the Russian medical center Zashita, Sergey Goncharov, told RIA Novosti. According to Goncharov, 50 people are in severe condition, including 25 children.

Meanwhile, 14 foreign states have sent humanitarian aid to the victims of the terrorist act in Beslan during the recent ten days. The total weight of the humanitarian aid made up over 178 tons, a governmental source told Itar-Tass.

The countries shipped medical equipment, medicines, donor blood, clothes and food. Three planes arrived from the US with medicines and medical equipment on board (the total weight exceeded 37 tons).

China and Norway sent 15 tons of medicines each; Norway also shipped three ambulance vehicles to Russia. Mobile medical posts arrived from France. Italy sent over seven tons of aid, Greece helped with almost four tons, 9.5 tons arrived from Austria, 9 tons - from Germany, Poland and Bulgaria.

Two airplanes from Ukraine brought over 24 tons of humanitarian aid. Over 33 tons were received from Kyrgyzstan, Azerbaijan and Armenia.
