Girls irradiated from an anti-rodent chemical

An eight-year-old girl who had been brought to Volgograd from the village of Mikhailovka had to undergo medical examination in the regional narcological center of Volgograd.

According to RIA “Novosti”, the reanimation department of the narcological center could say even without a toxicological checkup that the girl had got poisoned with the salts of heavy metals and that was not a radiation sickness.
The substance that poisoned three sisters could be, for example, arsenic, thallium or an anti-rodent chemical, the Agency’s interlocutor said.

As “Vesti.ru” had reported earlier, on April, 23 three girls were brought to the district hospital of Mikhailovka with symptoms of radiation sickness. The physicians estimate the status of one of them as severe.
The three girls ages 4 to 8 were brought to the district hospital of Mikhailovka from the village of Bezimyanny (Nameless), located within 18 kilometers. Physicians could not diagnose them because of their low qualification level.
Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that the two girls were staying in the hospital of Mikhailovka and the oldest 8-year old who feels a little better had been brought to the narcological center of Volgograd where she was diagnosed with poisoning, reports NEWSru.

Last night the cause of the disease has not been determined yet. According to one of the versions, the children were sitting by the fire where radioactive substances were burning.

Meanwhile, the Ministry's spokesman informed “Interfax” that the cause of the children's indisposition was not yet clear. “There is no endorsement that the substance which has poisoned the children was radio-active, this should be defined” – a representative of the Ministry of Emergency Situations remarked. However, an operational group headed by Deputy Chief of local Civil defense and Emergency Situations has gone to Mikhailovka district in order to investigate the situation.

One may presume that as the physicians have rejected the diagnosis of radiation sickness, they will most probably stop searching for radio-active substances in Mikhailovka district.
