Update On Syrian Border Incident

A war that captured the world's attention remains a mystery

Australian media broadcasted a story clarifying a recent incident involving U.S. helicopters destroying a convoy of cars allegedly carrying Saddam Hussein and his entourage.

A group of 6 or 7 civilian cars moving towards the Syrian border near the town of Al-Qaim were attacked by American helicopters firing HELLFIRE rockets. When attacked, the cars dispersed.

Some vehicles were destroyed; others managed to cross into the Syrian territory. At that stage, U.S. ground forces crossed into Syria and actually engaged Syrian border guards defending their positions. Five Syrian soldiers were taker prisoners, three of them wounded. Syrian POW's were shown on Australian TV - an act violating Geneva Conventions when US soldiers are shown in captivity.

The story as told would indicate that 'international law' has no application to US military actions anywhere in the world.
