Red Cross Helped to Hold a Meeting of Coalition Representatives

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) helped to organise a meeting of representatives of the US administration in Baghdad and heads of the Baghdad water supply system. According to the Moscow office of the ICRC, the meeting participants discussed the list of water towers that should be protected, the schedule of fuel deliveries by US tankers, and support of the main sewage and purification facilities and of the main fuel warehouse in Dora south of Baghdad.

According to the Red Cross staff in Baghdad, marauders have been attacking several water towers in the city and hardly any equipment or spares have been left at the warehouses of the municipal water supply service.

As of now, humanitarian organisations have focused their attention on restoring the work of damaged water supply facilities in Baghdad and delivering additional tanks and reservoirs with water to the regions north of al-Ruseifa River and to Saddam's home town. The Red Cross staff believes the operation of the sewage system should be inspected and tank water deliveries to neighbourhoods should be resumed in the next few days.
