US military rule in Iraq will last for only 90 days, after which power will be handed over to the Iraqi people. According to RTR television, this was announced in Tehran by British Foreign Office Minister Mike O'Brien.
In a meeting with Mohsen Mirdamadi, the chairman of Iran's parliamentary commission for national security and foreign policy, O'Brien also touched on the issue of US-Iranian relations. The British minister stressed that 'Washington does not intend to create any problems for Iran and would like to resolve problems with the Islamic Republic of Iran.' However, the British minister also said that 'the US is concerned about the Islamic Republic's nuclear programme and recommends that Iran sign an additional protocol to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty.'
