State Duma Speaker criticizes executive structures of the Eurasian Economic Community - 7 December, 2002

Speaker of the State Duma (the lower house of the Russian parliament) Gennady Seleznev has criticized executive structures of the Eurasian Economic Community (EURASEC).

In reply to questions of St. Petersburg's journalists the speaker indicated that EURASEC was established to introduce a free trade zone but such a zone was still non-existent. Seleznev pointed out that "many people were losing heart." According to him, matters of the tariff policy as well as possibilities of duty-free transportation of commodities were still unresolved.

At the same time, according to Gennady Seleznev, EURASEC structures were cooperating successfully "at the parliamentary level, though "reserves are still available there."
