Russia Must Take Toughest Measures Against Terrorists

Russia remembered victims of terrorist acts on Thursday, September 3. Many people came to the square near the music theater in Moscow, where the Nord-Ost hostage crisis took place in 2002. Several hundreds of people came to the monument at the square to pay tribute to those who lost their lives as a result of the monstrous terrorist act.

“The people were inside that building. The terrorists did not let them stand up from their seats, they did not let them either eat or drink,” an elderly lady, who lost her relatives in the hostage crisis, said.

Millions of Russians also paid tribute to victims of the school siege in Beslan, explosions of apartment buildings in Moscow’s Kashirskoye Shosse and Guryanova Street, and to victims of several explosions in the Moscow Metro.

Thousands of people – about 10,000 – gathered near School No.1 in Beslan, where the tragedy happened, and at the City of Angels Memorial Graveyard, where victims of the terrorist act were buried.

The Russian government started its regular meeting on September 3 with a moment of silence, to honor the victims of the terrorist acts in Russia and North Ossetia.

“Today is the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism, the crimes, which bandits committed in Russia, I mean the hardest tragedies – the terrorist act in Beslan and the hostage crisis in Moscow. Let’s remember the victims,” Putin said before the meeting.

The people, who gathered at the square in front of the music theater in Moscow, said that the Russian authorities should toughen the punishment for terrorists. Andrey Isayev, the chairman of the State Duma Committee for Labor and Social Politics, said that all participants of terrorist acts shall have their property confiscated entirely.

“All of them, doesn’t matter whether they are dead or alive. This goes for both their own property and the property of their relatives. I also believe that Russia must take the toughest measures possible against terrorists,” the official said.
