The Leech Started Smoking and Died

New method to kick the smoking habit invented in Russia?
An unusual experiment was held in the Ulyanovsk Regional Center for Medical Prophylaxis on the eve of the World NO Tobacco Day, which is traditionally held on May 31. In the experiment, smoking was allowed for the first time in the conference hall of the Center. A chronic smoker inhaled and puffed smoke out into a glass jar. A leech placed into the jar nearly fell victim to the experiment. When it breathed in a portion of smoke, it gave no signs of that it was alive.

A leech is part of the animate kingdom, and the experiment demonstrated that nicotine kills everything living around it - this was the summary given by the organizers of the experiment.

In the framework of a press conference dedicated to the World NO Tobacco Day, psychotherapist and narcology expert Vladimir Dudkin cited some facts from research conducted by the World Health Organization that sounded very impressive for smokers.

60% of men and 20% of women in the world are smokers. The World Health Organization classes nicotine as a narcotic group because, the Organization says, nicotine causes much more damage than alcohol. Investigations have revealed that passive smokers (those who are close to smokers) have to inhale more toxic smoke to get the same effect.

It has been officially recognized that Russia is experiencing a smoking epidemic; if the situation doesn't improve here within the next 10-15 years, tobacco will be the main cause of death in this country.

Nicotine is especially ruinous for the veins. Doctors say that, under the influence of nicotine veins become varicose or narrow. One can see an example of such ruinous effect in the veins in the eyes of a chronic smoker; they are red, which means that they have been injured.
