It seems that the advertising war between Apple and Microsoft is not going to end ever. Apple demanded Microsoft should stop the campaign, in which Apple’s laptops were represented as extremely expensive. Official spokespeople for Apple said that the company had recently reduced the prices on many of its computers.
Kevin Turner, Micorsoft’s Chief Operating Officer, said during Microsoft 2009 Worldwide Partner Conference that Apple’s lawyers demanded Microsoft should stop the demonstration of its Laptop Hunters campaign.
One of the commercial films of the campaign tells of a girl named as Lauren, who wants to buy a powerful 17-inch laptop at $1,000. The character is told that Apple’s laptops were too expensive, and so she could not afford them.
Mr. Turner said that Apple’s lawyers called Microsoft and said that the latter should stop running the ads because Apple had cut prices on its products. Turner acknowledged that it was the most wonderful call that he had ever had in his experience and added that Microsoft would continue running the Laptop Hunters campaign.
Indeed, Apple cut prices on its MacBook and MacBook Pro. The price on of MacBook Air, for instance, saw a $300 base-model price drop, PC World website reports.
Apple did not sit on its hands at the time when Microsoft launched the above-mentioned campaign. Apple responded with a video parody telling the story of a homeless man, who purchased Microsoft’s laptop to cover his head during rain. Afterwards, Apple revealed that advertising agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky, which produced the Laptop Hunters, designed the campaign on MacBooks.
