All telephones are cut off in North Korean capital

Since August 23, no telephone is working in North Korean capital.
After dialing the third digit, there is a long whistle. Only international phone calls can be made in Pyongyang.

There are different reports on the causes of the problems with the phone lines. On the one hand, the local phone services say that they are working on fixing the technical problems, and the phone lines will be functioning properly soon. On the other hand, some agencies refer to the source in North Korean Ministry of Communications who allegedly said that the "phone lines cut off is an official measure of permanent nature".

”This decision was made on the government level”, said an anonymous source.

There is an opinion that this decision could be provoked by the actions of Japan on launching new spy satellites to watch the objects in North Korea.

This is not the first total cut off of telephones in North Korea. There was a similar situation in December 2002, it took almost a month to fix the defects. By the way, the first Japanese spy satellite to watch the nuclear objects of North Korea, was launched only in March 2003.
