Putin cracks down on 'American partners'

Vladimir Putin stated that the US position on Syria was not constructive. He said that he could not understand "how the American partners could criticize Russia's actions to struggle against terrorism in Syria if they refuse from a direct dialogue on important issues, such as a political settlement."

The Russian president believes that the Americans have no agenda on the issue - they have nothing to talk about, Putin said. At the same time, Russia still leaves its doors open and hopes to negotiate with all parties to this complex process, including the American partners."

On October 14, the US refused to accept the Russian delegation led by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev because of "the reluctance of Russia to make a constructive contribution" to the struggle against the Islamic State. White House spokesman Josh Earnest believes that Vladimir Putin is desperately trying to convince Washington to join Moscow. At the same time, Earnest noted that the US was ready to start a constructive discussion on Syria, but only if it touched upon the question of the destruction of the Islamic State.
