Champions League: German and Spanish teams for the semis?

Barcelona and Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Dortmund have the edge as the Champions League quarter-finals go to the second leg in a week's time, as a Real Madrid v. Barcelona final seems an ominous possibility and as Mourinho eyes up his third Champions League title with three clubs. Wishful thinking?

In the last eight of the Champions League, there are three Spanish teams (Real Madrid, Barcelona and Málaga), two Germans (Dortmund and Bayern Munich), one French (Paris Saint-Germain), one Turkish (Galatasaray) and one Italian (Juventus). Barcelona and Bayern have the advantage from the first games on Tuesday April 2, with a 2-2 away draw and a 2-0 home win, respectively.

In Wednesday's games, Málaga and Dortmund shared the points in a goalless draw in Spain, with 50 per cent ball possession each, 7 shots on target each, although the visiting goalkeeper had to make more saves (7 against 3). In Madrid, Real seems to have put the game out of Turkish side Galatasaray's reach with goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, Benzema and Higuaín.
