Captive hitlerite Field Marshal Paulus cellar to be reconstructed in Volgograd (Stalingrad)

Volgograd's (Stalingrad) central department store cellars, where the headquarters of German army commander Field Marshal Paulus were located during World War II, are to be reconstructed, with the interior decorated according to that epoch.

That was the place where the Hitlerite field marshal was captured during the Stalingrad battle on January 31st, 1943, "Stalingrad Battle" panorama museum head Boris Usik said in his interview with RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

The Paulus cellars will be presented to visitors in their final variant in this November. First visitors will be able to see them on July 18th.

The project's authors - the Central department store front office and the Stalingrad Battle panorama museum staff - first of all, reckon on young visitors and guests to the city. "We realize that many veterans may fail to understand us," Boris Usik remarked.

Friedrich Paulus (1890-1957) headed the 6th army, which, being surrounded, capitulated near Stalingrad. In captivity he joined the anti-fascist organization of German officers. From 1953 he lived in the GDR.
