Archeologists to excavate Gyrman settlement in Amur region

On Saturday, a joint archeological expedition of the Amur Regional Geographical Society and the Water and Environmental Problems Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Far Eastern Department will set out for an excavation site of an ancient settlement of Gyrman located near the Palvinskaya channel of the Amur river about 40 km from the town of Nikolayevsk-on-Amur.

According to Valery Simakov, the Secretary of the Amur Regional Geographic Society, "this is one of the most interesting and undiscovered places of not only Far Eastern Russia, but also of the whole North Eastern Asia." He said that an expedition that worked in the area last year has recently completed the data analysis and submitted to the Society's Presidium a number of unique findings that can change the traditional theory about people that inhabited the region from 7,000 B.C. to 2,000 B.C.
