Germany admits presence of Russians in Crimea

The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers of Germany amended the information about the Crimea on the website of the German government. The information was changed following criticism from Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

On the website of the German government, the Russians were not indicated among the list of the peoples populating the peninsula, Der Spiegel reports. Russian Foreign Minister paid attention to the fact on 9 December. 

The website of the German government has recently uploaded reference information about the Crimean Peninsula. Among other things, it was said that the Crimea, at different times, would be home to Tatars, Ukrainians, Armenians, Greeks and Germans. Russians were not mentioned on the list, which became a reason for the Russian Foreign Ministry to express concerns on the subject. 

"If this is the official website of the government of Germany, I would like to know who wrote the reference. We have sent such an inquiry," Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said. A representative of the Cabinet of Ministers of Germany told Spiegel Online, that the scandal erupted as a result of "editing error."
