Iraq: US/UK warplanes murder civilians

In an air raid on civilian installations on Monday night, a joint strike by British and US warplanes killed two people and injured a further 13 in attacks on two sites in the south of Iraq.

The US Air Force has confirmed the attack but denies that civilians were killed, claiming that precision weaponry was deployed against an anti-aircraft installation at Al-Amarah, which was threatening US and British warplanes policing the southern no-fly zone.

It will be remembered that this precision weaponry proved to be highly suspect both in Yugoslavia and in Afghanistan, where three thousand civilians were murdered in “collateral damage” incidents.
