Secret mass graves discovered in Ukraine

Russian MPs evinced interest in mass graves that were discovered in the region several days ago. United Russia deputy Vyacheslav Nikonov proposed to establish an international commission to investigate the incident, while LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky demanded one should not silence the "monstrous crimes," ITAR-TASS reports. Adequate requirements will be sent to the Council of Europe, PACE and OSCE, the chairman of the State Duma Committee for Foreign Affairs, Alexei Pushkov said.

"The Russian Foreign Ministry is taking every effort to get involved the UN, the OSCE, human rights organizations such as Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International, to investigate the origin of mass graves of civilians near Donetsk," the commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation Konstantin Dolgov said. He described the finding as "a war crime" and said that it could be "the work of the Ukrainian military."

A little later, Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin stated that "the information about the killings of citizens, whose bodies were found in the mass grave near Donetsk, would be investigated by the Central Investigative Department within the scope of the criminal investigation of the use of prohibited means and methods of warfare against civilians in the south-east of Ukraine."

Deputy Secretary of the Public Chamber, Vyacheslav Grib, stressed out that "the crime was committed with extreme cruelty, in the spirit of Nazism." "We call on Russian and international human rights defenders to create an independent group that will monitor the war crimes that are being committed on the territory of Ukraine," he said.

Russia's permanent representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Geneva, Alex Borodavkin, speaking at a session of the UN Council for Human Rights, said that "the mass grave of the bodies of executed civilians" was discovered on Tuesday (September 23). A report, uploaded on YouTube by REN TV television company said that there were nine bodies discovered in the grave.

The video shows a semi-destroyed mine near the village of Zhdanovka, where, according to journalists, Ukrainian military units were stationed. According to RIA Novosti, there were first strike rations of the National Guard of Ukraine found near the mass grave.

According to REN TV, militia fighters smelled the strong smell of decay near the mine. According to  journalists, two shallow pits were found, the bodies dressed in civilian clothes were found in both pits. The hands of the victims were tied behind their backs; the people were killed by shots in the head. At least one of the victims was said to be a young woman. Judging by the footage in the video, the bodies were barely covered with soil. Militia representatives are certain that the civilians were killed by Ukrainian military men.

According to ITAR-TASS, it goes about Mine No. 22 located 60 km east of Donetsk.

In the village of Nizhnaya Krynka, according to REN TV, the graves of five people were found. According to the channel, they are the bodies of militia fighters, whom the Ukrainian military killed without trial.

Meanwhile, the press center of the military operation in the south-east of Ukraine said that the information in the media "was not true to fact and was aimed at discrediting the Ukrainian troops."

Representative of the Council of National Security and Defense of Ukraine, Andrey Lysenko, said that the information distributed by Russian journalists was a "well-planned, but poorly thought-out provocation." The official did not provide any arguments in support of his point of view, ITAR-TASS reports.
