It’s Not a Counterfeit Note, It’s a Bookmark!

A very funny incident recently happened on the bus check point “Kunichina Gora” in the Pskov region on the boundary between Russia and the former Soviet republic of Estonia. It took almost a day for Estonian citizen Lyudmila Kovalenko, 33, to explain that the “counterfeit 100-dollar note” that frontier officers found in her luggage was an ordinary bookmark.

Inspector of the Pskov customs service Vladimir Basov found the 100 dollar bookmark when he inspected passengers of the bus following from the Russian city of Pskov to the Estonian city of Narva. He says that the discovered note had all signs of forgery. And Lyudmila Kovalenko says that it’s perfectly clear that the “counterfeit note” is an ordinary bookmark (that is the reason why it was between the pages of her book).

Finally, it was decided not to file a criminal case against Lyudmila Kovalenko, but materials concerning requisitioning of the “counterfeit bookmark” were sent to Estonia, where the suspicious woman lives.
