Wreaths Laid At Soviet Memorial In London

The British capital Sunday saw a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument to Soviet citizens who died in the Second World War. The ceremony was held at the Imperial War Museum, which hosts the monument, as part of the Remembrance Sunday marked today to commemorate all the Britons fallen in the WWI and in subsequent wars. Officials of the Southwark City Hall, Arctic Convoys veterans, British public figures, and senior officials of the Russian Embassy and Military Attache's Office attended the ceremony. Southwark is the district of London where the Imperial War Museum is located. An Arctic Convoys veteran told RIA Novosti that revisiting the memories of Soviet men and women who laid down their lives for the victory over Nazism ought to help the present generation of Britons avoid the mistakes of the past. He deplored the fact that the Arctic Convoys veterans are not honoured and respected at home as much as they are in Russia.
