The state of Washington has declared a legal war of litigation against a citizen over a claim for a 5 cent debt.
Sandi Bryan was notified by the Washington State Department of Employment Security that she had been over paid by 5 cents when she collected her Unemployment Benefits six years ago. Now, the state of Washington, want their money.
In her notification, Ms. Bryan was informed: "the Superior Court warrant will be satisfied immediately" or “you will be taken to court”.
The state of Washington paid the salary of the person who typed up the letter and spent thirty seven cents to send the demand for payment. This means, it cost about eleven dollars to collect 5 cents.
I wonder that the sentence is for 5 cents? Washington State still has the death penalty on its books.
