Warsaw: The United States began discussions of “organization and modernization” of American military forces in Poland.
On Monday evening the US vice-minister of defense Douglas Fate lead official negotiations with Polish defense minister Ezhi Schmaidzinsky.
“First decisions on possible movement of American military bases to Poland will not be finalized until next year”, commented Fate.
According to Schmaidzinsky, probable presence of American troops in Poland will become a “topic for political discussions and consultations in Poland itself”. The question has to be assessed in context of Poland security, strategic partnership with the USA, international and union duties and also economic aspects. In Germany, for example, 21% of expenses associated with presence of American bases are provided by taxpayers.
The topic of possible moving of a few American bases in Europe to Poland has been discussed in local media for months. Unofficial information claims that Kshesin (by Poznan) can receive one US group of 16 battle machines from Germany.
Aerodrome in Kshesin was modernized, and the base now fulfils all NATO standards.
