Britain Remembers Leningrad's Heroic Resistance

On the eve of Victory Day, the London Imperial War Museum will hold commemorative events with the participation of guests from Russia.

The museum's guests will be showed a film about the Great Patriotic War, "Leningrad. A Hero City," produced by the British Granada TV company, the war chronicles and also a photo exhibition organized by the London office of RIA Novosti.

The exhibition is designed to show British visitors two events: the heroic defense of Leningrad during the war and the preparations for the forthcoming 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg.

The photo exhibition features about 30 photo works by RIA Novosti's photo correspondents. The visitors will have an opportunity to see the city's retrospective history for the past 60 years: from the horrors of the 900-day blockade to the modern facade views of St. Petersburg and its surroundings.

The main sponsor of the festive events is Britain's Soviet Memorial Foundation. This Foundation is holding the events devoted to commemorative dates of World War Two and the Great Patriotic War on the basis of the Imperial War Museum, and also ensures the proper maintenance of the monument to Soviet soldiers and citizens who died during the World War Two.

The monument is located in the park of the Imperial War Museum.

The celebration of V-Day, which is held on May 8th in Europe and on May 9th in Russia and the CIS countries, will continue into Friday.
