Several people committed suicides around one and the same time
There is something mystical about the incident that happened in the Russian city of Severodvinsk, the Arkhangelsk region. Two men committed suicide on Monday of April 7th, around midday, almost at one and the same time. Another man tried to hang himself around the same period of time, although his wife managed to take him off and save him.
Two women cut their wrists almost at one and the same time on April 8th (the two women did not know of each other’s existence, they lived in two opposite areas of the city). To crown it all, a young man and a young girl (they did not know each other either) tried to take poison yesterday.
Doctors had to state the death of two men, who hung themselves on Monday. The two men lived in different streets of the city, although their apartment buildings had the same number - twelve. This seems to be very mystical.
Local police officers have another riddle to deal with: there have been six incidents of swindling connected with cheating elderly people. Six incidents like that happened in the city within latest two months. Here is the description of the last one.
On April 7th, two women rang the bell of an apartment, where an 84-year-old lady lived. The woman lived in Karl Marx Street, building 20. The two women introduced themselves as employees of the social department of the Severodvinsk city administration. The old lady let one of them come in. The woman asked the old lady for her passport details, as well as for the number of her veteran certificate. The old lady had to go to another room to get those documents, while an "employee of the social department" stole ten thousand rubles from the old lady's hiding-place. The lady found that her money was missing only on April 8th, almost 24 hours after the woman left her apartment.
Another incident like that took place a month ago, on March 8th. A man rang the bell of another apartment, in which a 82-year-old woman lived. He also introduced himself as an employee of the social department of Severodvinsk's city administration. The lady went into another room to get her passport there, while the man stole 40 thousand rubles that she and her husband (a disabled person) saved. On other occasions, the man entered elderly people’s apartments as a "sanitary technician."
It is rather hard for Severodvinsk police officers to trace those swindlers, for the victims of their crimes are all elderly people, who can hardly remember anything. However, all services of the city's criminal investigation department do their best to detain the swindlers.
