World Cup: Ghana leaves

The Black Stars captain kept his word, and Ghana emerged as Africa's standout in Germany - four years before the continent hosts its first World Cup tournament.

The west Africans, unseeded and ranked 48th by FIFA, beat the United States 2-1 and upset the Czech Republic with a 2-0 win to make the second round in their World Cup debut.

On Tuesday, dreams of being the first African team to reach the semifinals ended with a 3-0 defeat by Brazil. The five-time world champions defended for most of the game, according to the AP.
