Russia condemns recent Jordan bombings

Russia condemned the suicide bomb attacks on hotels in Jordan, saying they were aimed to destabilize the Middle East and underscored the need for close international cooperation against terrorism.

"We decisively condemn this new monstrous and provocative terrorist sortie," Foreign Ministry spokesman Mikhail Kamynin said in statement, expressing sympathy with survivors and relatives of victims of the blasts, which killed at least 56 people.

Wednesday's bombings were aimed "to shake up the situation in one of the traditionally stable countries of the Mideast and destabilize the atmosphere in the region as a whole," the AP quoted Kamynin as saying.

In a condolence telegram to Jordan's King Abdullah II, President Vladimir Putin said the attacks were "yet another harsh confirmation" of the need to "mobilize the world community in an uncompromising struggle with this evil, which belongs to no nation or religion."
