Danish terror suspects are innocent, imam says

One of Denmark's leading imams on Thursday defended a group of young Muslims arrested in a terror probe and said they would likely be cleared of all charges.Since last week, Danish police have arrested six men and a woman, all said to be in their late teens or early 20s, on suspicion of belonging to a terror network planning an attack in Europe.

Copenhagen police arrested the first four suspects in raids last Thursday and seized computers, computer discs, books with radical Muslim literature and 200,000 kroner (Ђ27,000; US$32,400) in cash. Police said the arrests were linked to a raid in Bosnia earlier in October where local police arrested a Swede and a Turk, and said they found explosives, firearms and other military equipment, the AP reports.

Danish police have since arrested three more suspects including one young woman.

Abu Laban said that the youths "perhaps were more critical in their expressions" toward Danish society than others, but that he "never noticed anything abnormal."

"Within our day-to-day contact and what we have been able to read between the lines, I have to say that we can't believe they will be involved in a real terror act," he said.

The suspects have been ordered held until Nov 16 as police continue investigating the case. A.M.
