Bird flue: list of marshland risk zones expanded by Spain

A list of marshland zones where outdoor poultry farming has been banned in order to protect against bird flu has been increased from 18 to 25, the Spanish government said Monday.

The Agriculture Ministry said the regional governments of Andalusia, Cantabria and Murcia had asked for seven additional marshland areas to be included in the list of areas cited in a draft first published last week.

Outdoor breeding of poultry is banned within a radius of 10 kilometers (6 miles) of these marshlands, the ministry said in a statement. A.M.
