Strike in Macedonia: hospital employees wants government to double salary

About 4,000 employees at Macedonia's largest state hospital launched an indefinite strike Thursday, demanding that the government double their salaries.

Monthly salaries at Skopje's Clinic Center hospital complex range from Ђ100 (US$120) for nurses to Ђ340 (US$410) for professors of medicine, according to the AP.

The union said it decided to take action after most other Macedonian civil servants secured pay rises _ including ministers and members of parliament. Health Care Minister Vlado Dimov said Clinic Center salaries can be negotiated "some time next year." AM
