First presidential election in Indonesia

World leaders have congratulated Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on winning Indonesia's presidential election.

Their acknowledgement came even though the incumbent, Megawati Sukarnoputri, has still not formally admitted defeat.

A tearful Mrs Megawati urged the people to accept the result - an overwhelming victory for Mr Yudhoyono - but stopped short of admitting she lost.

Mr Yudhoyono's aides said messages of congratulations had been received from the US, &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/science/19/94/379/13758_china.html ' target=_blank>China, Japan and the UK, BBC News informed.

According to the Jakarta Post, the process of the &to=http:// english.pravda.ru/mailbox/ 22/101/399/14296_Elections.html ' target=_blank>elections was beyond expectations: fair, peaceful, and democratic. The people participated enthusiastically because they believe that the elections can make a real difference to their lives.

Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono or SBY has come out as the winner, and convincingly so as he has gained about 22 percent more votes than his competitor, Megawati.

Indonesian next president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono praised the speech of incumbent President Megawati Soekarnoputri during the birthday of the country's military, which he said could bring progress for the country.
