The United Nations civil mission for Kosovo, the International peacekeeping force for Kosovo (KFOR), and the Interpol conduct from April 30 to June 4 an action on voluntary handing over of illegal arms kept by the population. According to a RIA Novosti correspondent, if Kosovo residents pass their arms to the authorities voluntarily, no measures of punishment will be taken to them. Arms may be handed over to any peacekeeping patrol, to the Interpol or to special fixed and mobile reception stations. Ammunition and explosives should be passed directly to KFOR officials, for reasons of security. In accordance with the decision of the United Nations Civil Mission for Kosovo (UNMIK), if illegally kept arms are found at somebody's place after the indicated time, they might be sentenced to imprisonment of up to 10 years or to a fine of up to 10.000 DM.
