The troops of the Northern Alliance are fighting battles against the Taliban at the approaches to Mazar-i-Sharif, said on Tuesday first secretary of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Moscow Sakhi Ghairat. According to him, so far we cannot speak about battles in the streets of that strategically important centre in the North of Afghanistan. Apart from the military operation, pointed out Sakhi Ghairat, active negotiations are being conducted with the Talibs about voluntary joining the anti-Taliban coalition. However, the Arabs and Pakistanis, fighting at the side of the Taliban movement, continue the stubborn resistance to the Northern Alliance. The Afghan diplomat said that the government forces are also being concentrated at the Kabul direction. They have taken under their control the road which connects Kabul and Bagram, a strategically important point some twenty kilometres from to the north of the Afghan capital where the country's biggest aerodrome is situated.
