Ex-king of Afghanistan Mohammad Zakhir Shah sends delegates to the conference on Afghanistan which is to be held under aegis of the UN in Berlin next week, ex-monarch's spokesman announced Tuesday. Central figure in Afghani settlement, Zakhir Shah has been living in Italy, in exile, since 1973. Although he had announced previously that he would not be king again, the initiative of forming a broad-based government in the country belongs to him. Leaders of anti-Taliban Northern Alliance agreed Tuesday to participate in the UN-led conference on the future of Afghanistan. Northern Alliance Foreign Minister Abdullah Abdullo announced that preparations are being made presently for dispatching a delegation to Germany.
