Cuba - U.S.: Hijack Crisis Resolved

The crisis with the Cuban plane hijacked to the United States on Wednesday has been resolved.

The six hijackers surrendered to the U.S. authorities in the Key West international airport (Florida), no-one on board was injured.

A plane of the Cuban state airline with 29 passengers on board took off from Isla de Juventud on Wednesday, and was hijacked by six culprits to the United States.

About 7:45 PM /3:45 Moscow time/, it entered the U.S. airspace and was detected by Miami international airport radars. Fighters called from Homestead Air Reserve base escorted the plane to the Key West international airport, where it landed.

All the passengers were released after negotiations with the hijackers half an hour after landing.

Becky Herrin, a spokesperson for the Monroe County Sheriff's Department said the six hijackers were arrested and the passengers were being interrogated by the U.S. Customs.
