The international tennis tournament "President's Cup", which ended in the capital of Uzbekistan in the middle of September, and which was thrice voted the best in the category of such tournaments, will no longer be held, Uzbekistan's Prime Minister Utkir Sultanov, chairman of the organising committee for holding international tournaments on tennis, said at a news briefing on Thursday, RIA Novosti reports.
"The tournament has fulfilled its task in full and will not be held in future, because Uzbekistan has already become a centre for holding international tennis competitions," he said.
According to the prime minister, tennis enabled the republic to create an integral system of mass development of traditional sports at a new qualitative level. World known tennis players will be invited to Uzbekistan for demonstration appearances.
