Three Russian navigation satellites of glonass system placed in orbit

Three space apparatuses of the Kosmos series launched in the evening of December 10 from the Baikonur space port by the Proton booster rocket, have been placed in the targeted orbit within the rated time-limit, a representative of the Space Forces' press service told RIA Novosti.

Permanent telemetric communication is being maintained with Kosmos-2402, Kosmos-2403 and Kosmos-2404 satellites. All the devices are being controlled by the command-measuring complex of the Space Forces, the interlocutor pointed out.

The satellites of the Russian GLONASS system are designed to determine the precise location of ships, planes and special automatic equipment. To determine the spatial coordinates and the time, the signals should be received from four satellites at one and the same time. With the help of the GLONASS receivers it is possible to determine three coordinates of the consumer's location and its movement speed with the time registration on the highly accurate scale of the universal coordinated time.
