Artificial satellite to be used to transmit current parliamentary elections information

The satellite segment of the automated "Vybory" (Elections) system of communications and data transmission will ensure uninterrupted exchange of information between the Central Election Commission and election commissions in remote Russian regions.

According to the information provided by the press center of the "Kosmicheskaya Svyaz" (Space communications) Company, VSAT ground satellite communications stations were in advance installed in 16 settlements of Russia. Representatives of the press center indicated that "in the areas lacking technical capabilities to set up ground channels, communications channels were established through spacecraft Express-A1, Express-6A and Gorizont-145." Each channel is capable to transmit voice and data messages with the speed of 64 kbps. If it becomes necessary to hold video conferences with election commissions of Russian Federation constituent members, capacity of each channel may be increased to 512 kbps.
