Siberian scientists receive unique acoustic camera to test Earth satellites

The Krasnoyarsk scientists, who created the Earth's artificial satellites, received a unique acoustic camera for their work.

The Zheleznogorsk-based (the south of the Krasnoyarsk Territory) Academician Mikhail Reshetnev Scientific-Production Association of Applied Mechanics commissioned on Tuesday evening the first Russian camera for conducting acoustic tests of space devices created for various purposes.

Chief designer and general director of the Association Albert Kozlov pointed out that the camera will allow to carry out the full cycle of the ground stand tests before launching a satellite into orbit. According to him, this will decrease to the minimum the probability of an undesirable situation - during the launching of the rocket, putting the satellite in the orbit and during its work on the orbit.

The space device placed, in the presence of journalists, into the camera (11 meters high), was subjected to such a sound pressure which is usually made by the engines of a booster rocket during its launching with a satellite. The level of such a noise can maximally reach 140 decibels, which may lead to breakages and serious destructions in the satellite's electronic systems.

This test stand has been necessary to the Association for a long period of time. Over the 50 years of its work it created more than 1,000 space devices, and is now producing up to 70 percent of Russian Earth's satellites, stressed Kozlov.
