Unique music festival in St. Petersburg

The International Week of Conservatories festival dedicated to St. Petersburg's 300th anniversary opens on Saturday, September 20.

"This unique music forum will gather representatives of various national cultures on the stage of Russia's oldest conservatory," the press service of the St. Petersburg conservatory told RIA Novosti.

The International Week of Conservatories will not only present traditions and modern achievements of the Russian, European and US high music schools but also will reveal new talented musicians and their teachers, the press service said.

Teachers and musicians of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory, the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory, the Universities of California and Texas /USA/, the Royal Northern Music College /Great Britain/, the Chopin Music Academy /Poland/, the Rostock High Music School /Germany/, the Copenhagen Conservatory /Denmark/ and the Youth Chamber Orchestra /the Netherlands/ will participate in the 2003 festival.

Twelve concerts of classic, folk and jazz music will be held in the St. Petersburg Conservatory and the Catherine Palace (Tsarskoye Selo) as part of the festival.

The International Week of Conservatories will close on September 27.

The festival is held under the patronage of the trustee council of the General Consulates and culture institutions of foreign countries. The music forum was established by the Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory /St. Petersburg/ and the Russian Culture Ministry.
