On August 20-24 Cannes, south coast of France, will host a festival of Russian art.
"We hope to turn Cannes into a cultural Davos, where people would be able not only to see the best in the different spheres of Russian art, but also to discuss important problems with partners," Russian First Deputy Culture Minister Denis Molchanov said in an interview with RIA Novosti.
The Russian cinema in Cannes will be represented by specially selected best films of modern film directors who work in different genres.
Also, the Pyatnitsky chorus and the symphonic orchestra Novaya Rossiya (New Russia) conducted by Yuri Bashmet will take part in the festival. Violinist Viktor Tretyakov will solo.
On August 23rd the St.Petersburg Academic Ballet Theatre directed by Boris Eifman will perform Russian Hamlet. On August 24th the festival will close with the ballet Tchaikovsky.
